Minimising impact on natural resources is a top priority in the mining industry today. With our comprehensive Expertise in tailings testing, VGLS can be any miner’s or consulting engineering firm’s partner for integrated tailings services.
VGLS is a newly established advanced laboratory. The Founder Vian Venter has been working in the industry for more than 9 years and has had exposure to the biggest mining operations and consulting engineers in the country.
Global regulations, which affected legislation that pertained to tailing dam facilities led to an increase in statutory testing. Vian discerned that the demand for testing and subsequent work around testing would increased dramatically due to the change in legislation.
We provide experienced professionals to help you safely and effectively manage, sampling, and testing related to tailings systems.

Vian Venter
Our Team Leader
Vian has been actively working in the geotechnical field for 9 years.
Amongst other projects, he started the first advanced testing laboratory in Africa solely focused on mine waste testing. During this time, he has developed critical relationships with both specialised vendors in the industry and clients. Vian was approached in 2022 by the University of Pretoria for another first to create a mobile advanced testing laboratory. He was approached for this position due to his specialised knowledge in the field as well as his practical, technical experience. Vian’s contributions to the industry via publication of articles as well as his participation at the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) council attests to his specialised knowledge in this field. Vian is exposed first-hand to the latest developments and technology in the field of advanced laboratory testing since he works at the University of Pretoria with two of the leading academics in the field. Vian also has a good relationship with consulting firms in South Africa known to the industry due to his specialised knowledge.
